- What is Warbird SkyVentures?
Warbird SkyVentures in a barnstorming flying service. The business office is located in Gallatin, TN. The aircraft are housed in Richmond, KY. We barnstorm with two North American AT-6's, two Boeing N2S-5 Stearman, and one Aeronca Champ 7AC aircraft.
- What is barnstorming?
When the pilots of WWI returned from service most did not have jobs. So they bought surplus military aircraft and created their own jobs. They flew from town to town and performed aerial acts to attract customers. They then landed in farmers' fields and bargained for rides. Sometimes they set up shop or slept in the farmers' barn and thus garnered the name "Barnstormers".
- Why do we fly the North American AT-6, Boeing N2S-5 Stearman, and the Aeroca Champ 7AC?
These aircraft were used to train the pilots of WW2. The Stearman was the primary trainer and the AT-6 was the advanced trainer. The Aeronca Champ was used as a post-war trainer. All three are very durable aircraft that have great flight characteristics and are very maneuverable.
- What makes flying these airplanes special to people?
These aircraft represent aviation history from a time when the world's freedom was at stake. The pilots that trained in these aircraft went on to defend and secure the freedoms that we all now enjoy. Many of our customers are the children or grandchildren of WW2 veterans and they are eager to take to the skies in the same make and model of airplane as their relatives did long ago.
- Where and when and can someone take a flight with Warbird SkyVentures?
We fly year round and travel to approximately 50 locations around the country each year. We fly in the southern United States during the winter months and move northward as the weather gets warmer. - Who are the pilots?
The chief pilot is Gina Michelle Moore. She has over 10,000 hours flying experience with most of it in the AT-6. John Cornett, Sam Garrett, Kyle Crabtree, and Gina Moore make up the crew of pilots. They are all highly experience and have exceptional backgrounds.
- Who maintains the airplanes?
We contract with one maintenance facilities: Mojo Aerospace. The aircraft undergo daily pre-flight and post-flight inspections and are also thoroughly inspected after 50 and 100 hours of operation. They also undergo extensive annual inspections.
- What is the mission and purpose of Warbird SkyVentures?
We endeavor to offer our customers the unique opportunity to experience flying in vintage aircraft from aviation's historic past. We believe these aircraft represent a significant period in aviation and should be kept in flying condition. Warbird SkyVentures strives to keep aviation history in the sky.
- What types of people take flights with Warbird SkyVentures?
Our customers are a variety of people with diverse backgrounds. They include professional people, veterans of all wars and conflicts, history buffs, RC airplane hobbyists, and people that like vintage airplanes. We have flown with people as young as 6 and as old as 92. Many of our customers are male but we have noticed an increase in the number of females.
- Do we require our customers to have any previous pilot training?
Absolutely not! Our only requirement is a desire to fly in authentic WW2 aircraft.
